An aging cabinet is designed to store wine long-term under optimal conditions, while a serving cabinet keeps wine at the ideal temperature for serving.

For aging, the universal temperature is 12°C (10-14°C is acceptable) — stability matters more than the exact value. Humidity should stay between 50 and 80% (ideally 60-75%): below 50% corks dry out and let oxygen in, above 80% labels and corks can develop mould. All our wine cabinets regulate temperature and humidity automatically.

Modern wine cabinets run at roughly 35-42 dB, about the level of a recent refrigerator. For a living room or open kitchen, choose a model rated 38 dB or less — the noise level is stated on every product page. Anti-vibration shelves and a stable, level floor further reduce noise and protect the wine from vibrations.

Between roughly 100 and 200 kWh per year depending on size, insulation and energy class — about CHF 25-50 of electricity per year in Switzerland. The energy class is shown on each product page. Placing the cabinet in a temperate room and limiting door openings keeps consumption low.

No — never. A freestanding cabinet evacuates heat through its sides and back and needs 5-10 cm of clearance; enclosed in furniture, its compressor overheats and fails prematurely. Only built-in models, which vent at the front, can be integrated. A built-in model can however be used freestanding.

Size it on your cellar's volume and insulation: as a rule of thumb about 100 W of cooling power per m³ for a well-insulated cellar. An undersized unit runs non-stop and wears out early; an oversized one regulates poorly. Also plan the condensate drainage and, for through-wall monobloc units, an adjacent ventilated room.
