Freestanding wine cabinets: place them anywhere
A freestanding wine cabinet needs no niche and no carpentry: put it in place, let it settle and fill it. It suits a living room, a cellar, a garage or a restaurant, and it is the most flexible way to store from about a dozen to more than 250 bottles.
We offer freestanding ageing, service and dual-zone wine cabinets from La Sommelière and Temptech, as well as our own Wine Guard RaVin range, with delivery and installation anywhere in Switzerland.
How to choose a freestanding wine cabinet
Ageing, service or both
An ageing cabinet keeps one stable temperature, around 12 °C, for long-term storage. A service cabinet keeps bottles at drinking temperature. A dual-zone or multi-zone cabinet does both.
Room temperature and climate class
A wine cabinet works within a given room temperature range, shown by its climate class. In an unheated garage or cellar, check that the model is designed for the temperatures of that room.
Space for ventilation
Leave the space recommended by the manufacturer around the cabinet, keep it away from radiators and direct sunlight, and place it on a level, stable floor.
Capacity and shelves
Count your bottles and add 20 to 30 %. Sliding wooden shelves make access easy; fixed or stacking shelves give the highest capacity.
Door and light
A solid door gives the best protection against light. A glass door shows your collection; choose UV-protected glass if the cabinet stands in a bright room.
Which freestanding wine cabinet for which use?
| Use | Type of cabinet | Typical capacity |
|---|---|---|
| Long-term ageing | Single-zone ageing cabinet, solid or UV-protected glass door | About 100 to 250 bottles |
| Everyday drinking | Service or dual-zone cabinet | About 12 to 100 bottles |
| Collection and daily wines | Dual-zone or multi-zone cabinet | From compact to large models |
| Restaurant or wine bar | Glass-door service cabinet with several zones | According to your wine list |

Freestanding wine cabinet FAQ
Where should I place a freestanding wine cabinet?
In a room within the climate class of the cabinet, away from radiators, ovens and direct sunlight, on a level floor and with the ventilation space recommended by the manufacturer.
Can I put it in a garage or an unheated cellar?
Yes, if the room temperature stays within the climate class of the model. Some cabinets have a heating function that keeps the temperature stable in cold rooms.
What is the difference between an ageing and a service cabinet?
An ageing cabinet keeps one stable temperature for long-term storage. A service cabinet keeps wines at drinking temperature, often with several zones.
How long should I wait before switching it on?
After transport, let the cabinet stand upright for a few hours, or as long as the manufacturer recommends, before plugging it in.
Is a glass door bad for wine?
Light can damage wine over time. A glass door with UV protection limits this; for long ageing in a bright room, a solid door is safer.
How noisy is a freestanding wine cabinet?
It depends on the model. Check the noise level in dB in the technical specifications; for a living area, choose a quiet, low-vibration model.
Do you deliver and install?
Yes. Choose doorstep delivery, or delivery and installation by two people who bring the cabinet to the room of your choice, level it, connect it and take the packaging away. You can also collect it in Payerne.
Can I return a wine cabinet?
You can withdraw within 14 days of receipt if the cabinet is unused and in its original packaging. Details are in our return policy.
