Wine ageing cabinets

Wine ageing cabinets: a true cellar at home

A wine ageing cabinet recreates the conditions of a natural cellar: one stable temperature around 12 °C, sufficient humidity, darkness and very little vibration. It is the right choice for wines you want to keep for several years.

Our ageing cabinets, mainly from La Sommelière, hold from about 100 to more than 250 bottles, with solid or glass doors and shelves designed for storage or presentation.

How to choose a wine ageing cabinet

Stable temperature

What matters most is stability. A good ageing cabinet holds its set temperature, usually between 10 and 14 °C, with minimal variation, even when the room gets colder or warmer.

Humidity

Corks stay supple when relative humidity is around 60 to 75 %. Check how the model manages humidity in its technical specifications.

Protection against light and vibration

A solid door or UV-treated glass protects the wine from light. Low-vibration compressors protect the slow development of the wine.

Capacity

An ageing collection grows. Plan for the bottles you will buy in the coming years, not only for what you own today.

Air quality

Many ageing cabinets have a carbon filter that keeps the air free of odours, and good air circulation prevents mould on labels and corks.

Wine ageing cabinet FAQ

What is the ideal temperature for ageing wine?

A stable temperature between 10 and 14 °C, with 12 °C a common setting. Stability matters more than the exact figure.

What humidity should an ageing cabinet have?

About 60 to 75 % relative humidity keeps corks supple and limits evaporation without damaging labels.

Can I age whites and reds together?

Yes. In an ageing cabinet, all wines age at the same temperature; you bring them to serving temperature before opening.

Glass door or solid door?

For long-term ageing, a solid door gives the best protection against light. A UV-treated glass door is a good compromise if you want to see your collection.

How long can wine age in a cabinet?

As long as the wine itself can age. The cabinet provides cellar conditions; the ageing potential depends on the wine.

Is an ageing cabinet noisy?

Ageing cabinets are designed with low-vibration compressors. Check the noise level in dB in the technical specifications.

Can I put an ageing cabinet in an unheated room?

Yes, if the room stays within the climate class of the model. Many ageing cabinets can also heat to keep a stable temperature when the room is cold.

Do you deliver and install ageing cabinets?

Yes. Large cabinets can be delivered and installed by two people, who bring them to the room of your choice and connect them. Doorstep delivery and collection in Payerne are also available.
