Wine Cellar Cooling Units

Wine cellar cooling units: the right climate for a real cellar

A wine cellar cooling unit keeps a room at a stable cellar temperature, usually 12 to 14 °C, with controlled humidity. It is what turns a basement, a glass wine room or a wine wall into a true wine cellar.

We sell Wine Guardian and WineMaster cooling units for cellars from a few cubic metres to large rooms: through-the-wall, ducted, split and ceiling systems, together with spare parts and accessories.

How to choose a wine cellar cooling unit

Cellar volume

Multiply length × width × height to get the volume in m³. The model name or the specifications give the maximum cellar volume under standard conditions.

Insulation and heat load

The capacity you really need depends on insulation, glass surfaces, lighting and the temperature around the cellar. A glass cellar or a warm adjacent room needs more cooling power.

Where the heat goes

Every cooling unit releases heat. Through-the-wall units release it into the adjacent room; ducted and split systems send it further away, often outdoors.

Noise in and around the cellar

With ducted and split systems, the noisiest part sits outside the cellar. A through-the-wall unit is simpler to install but can be heard in the cellar and in the next room.

Installation

Through-the-wall units can often be installed by a skilled installer. Split systems need a refrigeration technician to connect the refrigerant lines.

Wine cellar cooling unit FAQ

How do I calculate the size of my wine cellar?

Multiply length × width × height in metres to get the volume in m³. Add a safety margin if the cellar has glass walls, limited insulation or a warm room next to it.

What temperature does a cellar cooling unit maintain?

Most units are set around 12 to 14 °C for storage and ageing. Check the temperature range in the specifications of each model.

Does the cellar need insulation?

Yes. Good insulation and a vapour barrier are essential; without them the unit runs constantly and condensation can appear.

Through-the-wall or split system?

A through-the-wall unit is simpler and cheaper to install but releases heat and noise into the next room. A split system is quieter in and around the cellar but needs a refrigeration technician.

Does a cooling unit also control humidity?

Cooling removes moisture from the air. Some units manage humidity better than others, and a dedicated humidifier can be added when the cellar is too dry.

Can I install the unit myself?

A through-the-wall unit can be installed by a skilled person following the manual. Split systems must be installed by a qualified refrigeration technician.

Do you sell spare parts?

Yes. We stock spare parts and accessories for Wine Guardian and WineMaster units, such as filters, fans, sensors and control boards.

Can you design and install the whole cellar?

Yes, through our sister brand LivinVino, which designs custom wine cellars and installs the cooling system anywhere in Switzerland.
